CODEFEST is a full day of code workshops for students and startups who want to learn, explore and further develop their coding skills. There will be beginner modules up to advanced!

If the participants want to follow along in real-time, follow these instructions before the workshop to set up their development environment: http://installrails.com/

Python for beginners module
Please download python 3.5 and jupyter for the workshop. Please test that you can run a jupyter notebook on your computer before the workshop. You can find notebooks and info about jupyter at: http://jupyter.org

Git + HTML/CSS for beginners module
Please download git for the workshop. Please test that your git installation is running properly by typing `git --version` and getting a version number back.

The instructor will be using Sublime Text as my text editor of choice, and Google Chrome as my web browser and mac’s basic terminal for my command line - these are not required, but recommended.

This is the first ever CODEFEST at DCSIL and we want to make this a regular event open to the UofT & wider community to build on and develop their coding skills.

Instructor Biographies:
Adarsha Datta is the National Startup Lead & Technical Evangelist at Microsoft Canada. As his title suggests – he is passionate about (and loves talking about) startups and technology, currently focusing on the cloud, machine learning and internet of things. As an evangelist, he enables and supports developers, students and startups with Microsoft technologies and services. He considers himself an educator, a community developer and engages through consistent involvement in community events/ camps/ hackathons/ conferences and other online/social channels. When he is not ‘evangelizing’ – he is either in the squash court, listening to music, or getting better at cooking!

 Vicky Bukta is a fourth year computer science student at U of T who is currently doing an internship at Eventmobi, focusing in backend development. She has been a teacher assistant for CSC258, computer organization, and for CSC490, a capstone course using IBM Watson. She has worked on a couple machine learning projects, one of which was purchased and implemented for an other company. She has been interested in the startup space for a long time. Being a part of a computer vision startup trying to diagnose malaria, and another trying to create a portable solution for personal medical records. She's a python enthusiast, and will show you the art of object oriented design.

Aashni Shah is a final year computer science student at UofT. She has previously done internships at Amazon and OANDA, focusing on web development. She has been making simple websites since she was 12, which eventually led her to study Computer Science. Aashni enjoys participating and planning hackathons, like UofTHacks, and has learnt to quickly whip together a website in the 36 hour deadline. She also enjoys spending time mentoring other students to help them learn new skills and techniques. When she’s not behind her computer coding, Aashni enjoys hanging out with friends, travelling all over the world, and binge watching lots of TV shows.

Cornelia Liu is a 4th year undergraduate student at UofT. She started her journey in Computer Science study to extend her passion as a web and mobile software developer. Her focus in CS specialist study is AI. She had a business diploma and is interested in how to provide user-oriented softwares. She also worked for CSC258 and participated in creating online lectures. She likes travelling and learning from different cultures. She will be graduating in June 2016 and working as a full-time Software Engineer in Tokyo, focusing on front-end development. She will share her passion about app development with you and help you get started with Android development.

Eddie Quan is a 4th year Computer Science Major at UofT. He is currently on a PEY at Nulogy, doing full-stack web development in Ruby on Rails. His interests lie in software design patterns, particularly their implementation in large-scale applications, and advanced algorithms.

Helen Kontozopoulos, Co-founder & Co-Director of DCSIL. Helen has been working with early stage startups for 8+ years as a business development, UX, customer experience architect (CX), design and marketing strategist. Helen integrates her knowledge of design, business,  technology, and anthropology to improve the process of innovation and the creation of successful business models. She is a lecturer at the University of Toronto, in the Department of Computer Science (St.George campus) and Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (Scarborough Campus), where she teaches product development and design, lean startup methodologies, entrepreneurship, and business model innovation.
